During the infancy of the World Wide Web, Tim hired programmer Christian to develop the first web spider, an autonomous program designed to index the growing network of server nodes and individual pages. During the five years of the project, the two watched as their creation developed into something more than they ever imagined. Almost thirty years later, Christian begins to suspect that their creation may still be operating online, operating in ways far beyond their original intentions. Told primarily through an archive of phone messages and video chats, Archive Susan is an exploration of the growth of the young World Wide Web, the prevalence of digital surveillance, famous Internet mysteries, and a new kind of parenthood brought on by the advent of the digital age.
